Wedding Cake Kiss

I have no idea where the wedding cake kiss tradition derives from but we decided to have fun with it and as you can see we smeared cake on each other as we fed each other a piece of our wedding cake.

The couple that laughs together stays together!

This photo was before digital cameras so I had to scan it. Yes, we've been married that long!

Wedding Trivia:

What really happens to the "stuff" from your wedding day…I'll tell you...the truth.

The bride & groom small part of the cake was saved in my mother-in-laws garage freezer for IDK how long (years?) before I noticed it among all the other frozen hidden unidentifiable things in the back that you practically need an icepick to pry loose…you know the ones that you can't quite make out what the hell they are except for maybe they are pieces of a dirty polluted giant iceberg and you know you wouldn't dare eat it! So I exclaimed OMG THROW IT OUT!

The dress…mine got a big fat spaghetti sauce stain on it from the reception then I tried cleaning it off which only smeared it more so then the next day called about professional cleaning and wrapping it for storage, the cost was going to be the same as what I paid for it so I declined! I stored it myself..in it's clear plastic wedding gown bag! LOL For what? Again…my daughter is not going to want to wear that old thing and at the time I was not planning on having kids and if I did how do I know it would even be a girl! OK, so fast forward two years…we had a girl (planned mind you)..she is now taller and skinnier then me and different taste in style and maybe she doesn't want to get married. She more then likely is not going to want to wear that outdated spaghetti stained wedding dress I assure you! I bought my dress myself, it was on the clearance discontinue rack at the bridal shop, it was $100 but looked like $1000. I was proud with my frugality, my thrifty spending. I just could not see myself spending hard earned money for a dress I would only wear once in my life not even an entire 24 hours! I would rather spend money on more prudent things, like eating for example. Hey, we were in college, living on our own, working and paying for the wedding OURSELVES. I did not have parents helping me. It was my day, my plans and no one should expect others to pay for their personal dreams. Besides, I looked damn good in it. I saved the receipts of all my wedding expenses, they are in a book, I'll have to scan those and post them here!

The shoes. Payless. Enough said. They went into the garbage or maybe I gave them to charity, cant remember to be honest but it was at some point early on cause I am not a high heel girl and who wears white shiny silky wedding dress material type shoes with anything other then a wedding dress? I should have gone barefoot and worn toe rings or worn hot pink high tops with glued on little white shiny pearls. Oh this would have fit my personality so much better!

The veil has the funniest story. About 8 years later it made it to Hawaii. It was allowed to live again as it became part of my preschoolers dress-up wardrobe to play with so it hung casually over the corner of a mirror that was against the wall. We got a Golden Retriever puppy. He decides to inspect things and next thing I know his little puppy teeth have managed to easily rip holes through it and chew off part of the end of it! I was not mad but laughed. It was not a keepsake. I even bought it a a consignment shop, cheap. At least it was enjoyed for more then one day! My daughter got to play with it and then my puppy. Honestly, I can't remember if I finally threw it out or managed to salvage it as a keepsake for a little longer…hhhmmm

The cake topper. It was fugly. It gets either thrown away immediately or gets shoved into a box for safe keeping. WHY??? At this point I am not sure if I already threw it out or not…I'll find out this fall while cleaning out garage stuff I plan to go through once and for all.

The brides faux bouquet. Faux is fancy French word for FAKE! (everything sounds better in French) It got shoved into a box too, for what I have no idea but I saved it. I found it recently while cleaning out things in my studio closet. I calculated it has moved around with us 11 times since our wedding day 19 years ago! I decided to open the box and inspect it. It was all crushed up, things falling off it, it looked cheap and I wondered to myself WTH was I keeping this shit for anyway?! Will it ever be used again? NO! Why did I not just use a real bouquet? Duh. My sister-in-law used a real one recently and it had real butterflies on it cause they had a box of butterflies they released instead of people throwing birdseed at them like I did at my wedding! Either way both I and my sister-law both contributed to feeding wild birds from what was released in the name of weird traditions! LOL Get it?

Well I had my Cinderella day. That's why I wanted to wear a big white dress and have my groom in tails. If I had to do it over again I might say let's dress that way but let's do the ceremony on the beach or in Vegas and have it more casual like a 10 minute ceremony max. I did get married across the street from the beach in a small non-denominational church called Chapel by the Sea. Inside it had an alter shaped like a boat, probably Noah's Ark. I would have also gone barefoot.

The Honeymoon. A hurricane named Andrew messed it all up and I am still so very pissed! We were going to the Bahamas! Instead, the airports got closed, people were evacuating and we ended up in a Hilton with a stupid cartoon mouse named Mickey and I am not even an amusement park type of girl and we'd been there before. Nothing special. On the bright side I am thankful we survived Hurricane Andrew.

OK so as I find the saved crap mementos from MY Cinderella Day that have not been thrown out yet, I'll simply post them here before throwing them out. We can then simply view them in photos and not lug them around in boxes anymore. I like technology!
